Ada's On The River

Ada’s on the River, as the name suggests, is beautifully located along the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria. This restaurant is part of the Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP), a local group of nine restaurants that includes two previous favorites we’ve reviewed, Mia’s Italian Kitchen and Palette 22.

The atmosphere at Ada’s takes full advantage of its location. Outdoor seating allows diners to enjoy river views and a fresh breeze, making it a wonderful spot on a sunny day. While the inside doesn’t share the same sweeping views, the open floor plan and relaxed yet upscale ambiance still make it inviting. The kitchen is in full view, enhancing the lively feel of the place.

As expected from an ARP restaurant, service is excellent. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and helpful throughout the dining experience. The menu is centered around traditional American fare, with the kitchen’s wood-burning oven highlighted in many of the dishes. From steaks to fresh seafood, there’s a strong focus on quality ingredients and technique.

Their brunch menu stands out as one of the best reasons to visit. It’s not just a slightly modified version of their regular menu – Ada’s offers classic brunch favorites like omelets, Benedicts, and lemon ricotta pancakes. Perfect for a weekend visit.

Ada’s also features a happy hour from 3 to 6 pm on weekdays, with deals on both drinks and small plates. And while reservations aren’t always required, it’s a good idea to book ahead if you want outdoor seating.

Overall, with a stellar location, excellent service, a strong brunch game, and plenty of delectable options, Ada’s on the River is a must-visit. There’s something about enjoying a drink and meal by the Potomac that just makes the day feel a little brighter.
